I'm the one holding on to winter.

It has a hard time leaving every year because, you see, we have this brilliant love affair.

I'm sorry. I know. You hate it. I can't help it. We have separation anxiety. You're ready for spring, and I understand. Don't worry. We had a talk. And winter really is on it's way out the door. So I've decided to go, too. I mean. One last rendezvous can't hurt, right? One last hurrah before next year.

Airport at 5 am. Park City in T-minus 20 hours. Oh, I just can't wait.

The Romantics

Forlorn! the very word is like a bell
To toll me back from thee to my sole self!
Adieu! the fancy cannot cheat so well
As she is fam'd to do, deceiving elf.
Adieu! adieu! thy plaintive anthem fades
Past the near meadows, over the still stream,
Up the hill-side; and now 'tis buried deep
In the next valley-glades:
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?
Fled is that music: - Do I wake or sleep?

From my favorite, ee cummings.

Last week, my friend Kaelah posted a picture of a tattoo that was the last line of a poem I really love, so I wanted to share it. It's by my very favorite poet, ee cummings. Some of his other poems appear to be jibberish, and he always breaks all the rules of capitalization, punctuation, and grammar, but its part of why I love him. There's meaning behind all the madness. And this one is just so beautiful to me. I'm not a big poetry person, so it takes a lot for me to love. And this, I love.

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
ee cummings

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most fragile gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skillfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Mug lovin.

I have this thing. It gets me into trouble. Trouble, as in I'm running out of room in my cabinets and I could never have enough house guests to warrant their numbers. I have this thing... for coffee mugs. Especially vintage ones. But every once in awhile a brand new one catches my eye. I had been eyeing one that came out at Starbucks around Valentine's Day, and saw it marked down yesterday morning. Now. Once upon a time there was this mug that looked like a sweater... and I refrained. And I still think about it to this day. It was the one that got away. So I wasn't passing this one up. I'm in love.

Note the nail polish. Which is also new. OPI's Alpine Snow. I've never done the white nail thing but I think I like it. It's just kind of refreshing.

Magic in a cardboard cup & the love of my lives.

Sorry for the lack of posting, it's been a pretty busy weekend.
On Friday after class and cleaning up the house some, I met Katie and Lauren at Sweet Cece's. Not to brag on myself, but I made the most glorious creation EVER. Perfect Peanut Butter and NY Cheesecake frozen yogurt with Lucky Charms, chocolate cookie dough, and hot fudge. OHMYLORD. Magic.

Afterwards we went to Green Hills for a bit, then headed back to Katie's apartment to meet up with Kayla and commence a night of cupcake making and movie watching. I'm sure you don't realize, but on Friday it had been exactly two years since Heath Ledger died. I seriously have not watched a Heath Ledger movie since. But I figured it was time, especially since two years is a very long time to go without watching your favorite movie. So while the funfetti cupcakes were in the oven, we popped in the DVD and I took a deep breath to prepare myself for that gorgeous smile.

So... the paintball scene? You know the one I mean? Well just in case:

It's perfection. So cute. The best date ever. Being tackled into a giant hay pile by a paint covered hunk-a-hunk of burning love?? UH, YES PLEASE. The way he throws off those goggles before going in for some lip action? OH YEAH. You toss those babies and plant one over here.

And as embarrassing as this is to admit, especially to people who may not know me and may just write me off as a crazy person immediately (well I am a little crazy, but one with redeeming qualities I like to think), I just couldn't help myself. I literally burst into tears during it. Because he was just the most gorgeous man to walk the earth. And I had every intention of testing out that gloriousness myself. No really. I basically had to change my life plan.

The rest of the weekend kind of flew by, including driving a few hours to visit my little sister and somehow ending up at a Guns and Roses cover band show with Merissa during Kayce's birthday celebrations. I know. Random of randoms. Today I went on another Green Hills adventure and ended up taking a trip to The Body Shop and Sephora with Lauren. I am pretty excited about some purchases... which included an OPI nail polish known as Ocean Love Potion. It ranks pretty high on my favorite nail polish names list.

Tonight has just been me which was nice. I grabbed some sushi and came home to put laundry in, and watched some Criminal Minds while eating my full moon sushi combo. I then proceeded to make these little babies:

Strawberry Sundrop cupcakes. I know, right? They are pretty amazing. I was a proud little baker. So now that I've eaten a couple, I'm ready to sprawl out and enjoy my new Cosmo and Vogue and make some design plans. Also some birthday present researching may go on. OH! I almost forgot that I had some really awesome thrift finds this weekend too. I will be posting pictures of those soon. Stay tuned!

Polaroid collage romance.

I saw these on the Green Wedding Shoes blog and had to share. (Which you should check out if you haven't yet!) They credit them to sicoactiva and I just think they are the sweetest things. Creative and different, and of course I love me some polaroids.

Let's pretend it's 1950.

No really. Besides the whole smiley perfect housewife thing, which I would definitely have to be heavily medicated to achieve any aspect of, I think that women had a class and glamour that is currently few and far between. After looking through old found photographs and vintage Vogue pages, what we now consider glamourous somehow seems cheapened. I don't know if maybe it's because it's less honest or we've gotten the definition turned around somehow, but it's just not the same. I feel like then glamour was more about poise and the essence of the girl, and now it's more about what she's wearing and how expensive it looks. I think back then more women had pride in just being a woman. Not in what we were allowed to do, what rights we had, but just being female. That in itself was something to be confident about, to make you feel empowered. Today women are so busy thinking of all the things they don't like about themselves and pointing out their wrongs that it's no wonder we can't carry ourselves with that kind of confidence and poise. So stop it. Love who you are. Radiate that beauty and you WILL be beautiful. Go be glamourous for god's sake.

Just in case you decide to make the splurge to look the part, Timeless Vixen carries some of the most beautiful vintage dresses in amazing condition. It's really a good thing I literally don't have the money to, or I would be buying out half the store. You know, maybe we should all just go back to wearing clothes this fabulous.

Smile pretty.

Picture time. I would say because I don't have time, but I took the time to do this so obviously I do. Well, not really, but I'm doing it anyway. Mostly this post will lack in writing because it took an extreme amount of effort to put together these sentences so that they are coherent to normal people who have gotten sleep and aren't thinking and doing ten million things at once.

My favorite four letter word.

Okay you guys. It's not what you think. Snow, people. Snow. And I need some. BAD. Even after tacky sweaters and ornament exchanges for some reason it just doesn't fully feel like December. It should, I mean, lord. I heard a Hanson Snowed In song in the mall the other day. Oh it takes me back.... to last year. Or I mean. Grade school. Because no one listens to them anymore... So anyway. Today would have been perfection with some snow, but alas it was nasty misting rain. We threw a Potluck, Ornament Swap, Tacky Sweater party and had an absolute BLAST. I'm so blessed with the friends in my life. We voted on a bunch of superlatives and I got... too many. Best Personality, Most Random, Most Likely to Not Use Their Degree (oops), Most Likely to Not Have a 9 to 5 Job, and Most Mischievous. I got that gleam in my eye...
So back to the snow thing. It makes everything better. It does. No matter what is happening in my life, no matter how stressful, when it suddenly starts to snow, it all falls away. It's like a giant hush. One of my very favorite things is waking up in the morning to that silence. Before you even get out of bed you can hear it. So peaceful. And like a slate wiped clean, it always makes me feel so hopeful.

There's a quote that I absolutely love from the movie The Family Stone. It's the scene where Meredith and Ben are sitting in the car and he decides to tell her about the dream he had. It's so innocent and beautiful.
"You were shoveling snow. You were just a little girl in a flannel night gown. And you were shoveling snow from the walk in front of our house. And I was the snow. I was the snow. And everywhere it landed and everywhere it covered. You scoop me up with a big red shovel. You scoop me up."
I think I feel better already. Just remembering that. Maybe I'll dream of snow tonight. In the meantime I'm sitting in a giant beanbag watching Baby Mama on the projector with some of those amazing people. We do this finals thing righttt.
